Fort Taztos by Margaret Foy and Edwin King is a role playing game supplement published by Columbia Games Inc. for use with Hârn and HârnMaster.
The supplement is available as a 12-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $9.98 but was purchased at a reduced price thanks to a special offer.
The first page starts with a couple of paragraphs on the fort, which is maintained by the Thardic Republic and sits on the Salt Route.
History explains that the fort is near to barrows on land that is now under the control of the Tulwyn and Gozyda; the Tulwyn in particular would be pleased to destroy the fort. This section covers a historical attack by the Tulwyn on the fort, the massacre of an understrength party sent to scout land for a new fort, ghosts seen in or near the fort since the attack, an overview of the barrows and the only known attempt to explore them and a map and details on one particular tomb. A sidebar on the first page gives the fort’s location, status, holder and population.
A map shows the fort and surrounding area with various points of interest then described.
Next, the supplement describes the fort in detail, with maps of the different levels, including underneath, and each room covered, along with some NPCs. A sidebar gives some details in the Tulwyn.
The final page of content has an excerpt from the Hârn regional map, showing the location of the fort, a map of Hârn with the excerpted area marked on it, followed by a list of related products.
Fort Taztos in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and, though short, has enough different sections that these would have been useful. Navigation could be better. The text is a single column with sidebar on the first page and two columns elsewhere and appeared to be free of errors. Apart from the various colour maps, there are two colour illustrations, one showing a view of the fort and one the emblem of the Ramala Legion. Presentation is fine.
Though this might be intended for use with HârnMaster it is effectively system neutral and can be used with any system. Though there are various references to Hârn locations in the text, these can be easily stripped out or replaced without any problems. The fort can therefore be dropped easily enough into other appropriate settings. There is also room to flesh out the settlement by the fort in more detail. The main problem is the price; at full price, this is not a cheap supplement. Fort Taztos is a good but pricy supplement describing a fort and it can be found by clicking here.
