A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Fill Up

Fill Up by Joseph Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with Cepheus Engine. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a 31 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three the front matter and three the Open Game License.

Fill UpThe opening paragraphs explain that Station GH-34I in the Sonora Sector – this is set in the Frontiers of Space – is a station that waits for ships that need refuelling, and do that and more for 20% under the going rate,

Patron explains that there isn’t one.

Complications are things that are not known.

Random Encounters is for random encounters on the station, with stats for anyone not one of the aliens running the place.

Rumors is a 4d6 table of rumours, some true, some false and some a bit of both.

Encounter Areas details the station itself.

Talamor Personnel has stats for the aliens who run the station.

Ships Visiting the Station has details on those ships that are currently docked.

Visitors to the Station is similar but has details on six more ships that may turn up.

Talamor Goods and Services Offered is a 2d6 table of various goods and services that can be bought.

Other Talamor Tricks has various shady practices that the Talamor will get up to to make money.

Events has a 2d6 table of random things that could happen.

Game Master Notes explains that unlike other adventures every contingency is not spelled out and this is more of a location than an adventure.

The final seven pages of content have colour maps of the station.

The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that they would have been useful. Navigation is poor. The text maintains a single column format and some minor errors were noticed. There are no illustrations bar the maps and covers. Presentation is adequate.

This, as stated in Game Master Notes, is really not an adventure. It’s a location where things can be bought and sold and there are many potential adventure hooks. Given its nature, it could be dropped into other settings in appropriate systems with a few changes. There is one oddity; the only paid companionship available as one of the services is female. Fill Up is a useful little supplement and it can be found by clicking here.
