Faces of Vathak: Survivors by Matt Roth is a role playing game supplement published by Fat Goblin Games for use with Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.
The supplement is available as an 18-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $3.41 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the front cover, two the front matter and Contents and one the Open Game License.
The Introduction explains that survivors can be found all over Vathak.
The Faces of Survival lists the 10 NPCs in the supplement by CR, with a brief paragraph on them. Following this, the NPCs are ordered alphabetically rather than by CR. Each is given a description, stats and some more details.
The Cannibalistic Cleric is a ghoul and former cleric.
The Covetous Vassal is a dhampir and descended from servants of the vampire rulers.
The Deathless Raider is a Bhriota barbarian.
Fortune’s Foe is a fortune-teller.
The Grizzled Veteran is a Vindari soldier.
The Half-Life Heretic is a hauntling occultist.
The Marked Scholar is a Vindari investigator.
The Patchwork Butcher is half-construct.
The Vengeful Remnant is a cultist of the Old Ones.
The Wilderness Hermit is a loner.
Faces of Vathak: Survivors in Review
The PDF is bookmarked with the various sections linked. The Contents is to a similar level of depth and is hyperlinked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of error. There are a variety of colour illustrations, including one for each NPC. Presentation is good.
This isn’t so much a collection of individual NPCs as it is types of NPC, like the collection of NPCs in the SRD. As such, to individualise them they will need names and such adding, but if they are only going to be met in combat, no more detail needs adding. Using the NPCs outside of the Shadows Over Vathak setting will often require work, given that many of them are designed for the specific kind of horror setting that is; they would probably work best with Ravenloft. Faces of Vathak: Survivors is a useful collection and it can be found by clicking here.
