Faces of the Tarnished Souk: Brynhild Eirensdottir, the Shining Valkyrie (PFRPG) by Matt Banach and Justin Sluder is a role playing game supplement published by Rite Publishing for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result. This is a single NPC at three different CRs.
The supplement is available as a 14-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $2.95 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the front cover, one the front matter, one the Open Game License and two are ads.
Brynhild Eirensdottir, the Shining Valkyrie gives some introductory text on the NPC, who is rarely found in the Tarnished Souk itself, being a dedicated fan of the combat at the Coliseum Morpheuon. They raise the dead and heal the wounds of gladiators who are injured or killed, so that they can fight again, and like a true dedicated fan has impressive knowledge of the competitors’ abilities. This also covers how Dreamburning affects her, pieces of lore to find out and how to use her in game.
The three different versions follow, arranged in the book from high to low CR.
The CR 6 version is Brynhild the Merciful is a mithral-clad aellar elf oracle (mixed-mystery)
Brynhild Eirensdottir, the Bright Swan of Battle, is the CR 12 version, an enchanted mithral-clad aellar elf oracle (mixed-mystery) 12.
The CR 20 version is Brynhild Eirensdottir, the Shining Valkyrie, an enchanted immortal mithral-clad aellar elf oracle (mixed-mystery) 18.
Aellar Elves explains that these rare elves are ones born with wings, and gives details on them. There is a new feat, Mystical Healer, a new oracle archetype, mixed-mystery, and two new spells. There are also three new magic items, a greater and a lesser version for one of them.
Enchanted, Immortal and Mithral-Clad are three templates, either inherited or acquired.
Brynhild Eirensdottir, the Shining Valkyrie (PFRPG) in Review
The PDF is bookmarked with major and subsections linked. Navigation is decent. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. Bar the cover illustration, there is only one more that appears to be stock. Presentation is fine.
This NPC hides a secret, and one that can make her a little unpredictable at times, ranging from cheerful to practically devilish. She’s a dedicated healer and characters who like to finish off their opponents may find Brynhild to be a little irritating as she brings foes back so that they can fight again. Of course, should it be the characters themselves being healed, that will likely be a different matter. Brynhild has a number of different possible uses in a campaign. Brynhild Eirensdottir, the Shining Valkyrie (PFRPG) is another interesting NPC and can be found by clicking here.
