Faces of the Tarnished Souk: Belladonna, the Face of Love Unrequited (PFRPG)

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Faces of the Tarnished Souk: Belladonna, the Face of Love Unrequited (PFRPG)

Faces of the Tarnished Souk: Belladonna, the Face of Love Unrequited (PFRPG) by Matt Banach and Justin Sluder is a role playing game supplement published by Rite Publishing for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result. This is a single NPC at three different CRs.

The supplement is available as an 18-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $2.95 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the front cover, one the front matter, one the Open Game License and two are ads.

Faces of the Tarnished Souk: Belladonna, the Face of Love Unrequited (PFRPG)Belladonna, the Face of Love Unrequited gives some introductory text on the NPC who was brought to the Tarnished Souk as a slave before finally breaking free. Nowadays, she runs the Coliseum Morpheuon’s most popular festhall. Details are given on how she is affected by Dreamburning, on the festhall, the Nightshade Palace, lore and using her in-game.

The three different versions follow, arranged in the book from high to low CR.

The CR 8 version is a nymph child half-elf taskshaper 7.

The CR 13 version is a nightmare nymph child half-elf taskshaper 11.

The CR 17 version is a nightmare nymph child half-elf taskshaper 15. New feats, magic items and, interestingly, a number of magical drinks are given, along with a warning on the perils of alcohol, even, or perhaps especially, the enchanted type.

New templates are nightmare creature and nymph child.

Faces of the Tarnished Souk: Belladonna, the Face of Love Unrequited (PFRPG) in Review

The PDF is decently bookmarked with major and minor sections linked. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of error. As well as the cover illustration, there are some pieces of black and white stock art. Presentation is decent.

Belladonna is perhaps not best suited to being a combat foe, but that doesn’t mean she’s a pushover, nor does that mean she’s ineffective; she can cause a lot of damage and trouble without having to resort to combat. The addition of some magical drinks is a very nice inclusion; not only does it suit Belladonna’s business but they’re also generally interesting and easy to reuse. As usual, the NPC is a rather complex one, and provides a nice, potentially non-combat foe.
