Eye of the Storm

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Eye of the Storm

Eye of the Storm by Joseph Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with OSRIC. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as an 18 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three the front matter and three the Open Game License.

Eye of the StormThe opening paragraphs explain that a delivery ship expected by a seaside village is overdue and the good are needed. They want someone to go look for it.

For the Game Master looks at the reward being offered, what actually happened to the ship and explains this adventure is intended for eight characters of 3rd to 5th level and can be placed anywhere there is a coast.

Random Encounters (On the Southern Coast) has a d4 table of encounters.

Random Encounters (In the Sea) has another d4 table of encounters.

Random Encounters (In the Shipwreck) is the final d4 table of encounters.

Key to the Southern Coast details the various points of interest.

Key to the Adventure describes the locations in the shipwreck.

New Magical Items has some new items.

The final two pages of content have maps of the coast and the shipwreck.

Eye of the Storm in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that these would have been useful. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a single column format and some minor errors were noticed. Bar the maps and covers, there are no illustrations. Presentation is okay.

Only stats for the shipwreck encounters are provided; the others will need looking up. The adventure itself is simple enough; get to a wreck and find out what happened, dealing with any issues along the way, then report back. This is a straightforward adventure, but has some potential dangers all the same. Eye of the Storm can be found by clicking here.
