A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement EN5ider #200 – Enchanted Trinkets #1

EN5ider #200 – Enchanted Trinkets #1 by Erik Evjen is a role playing game supplement published by EN Publishing for use with Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. This is part of a Patreon-funded regular series of themed articles; this is the first one covering some minor magical items.

The supplement is available as a 4-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $0.69.

The front cover and page has some credits and an explanation that sometimes all that is needed is some minor items to add a touch of magic to the game.

EN5ider #200 - Enchanted Trinkets #1A paragraph before the items explains that they have a rarity but it is suggested that GMs use the gp value instead, and that any time an item deals more than 20 damage, there is a 50% chance it is destroyed. A sidebar explains what is considered to be Open Game Content and what isn’t.

The items themselves follow. These are not weapons, but many have the ability to be used as such, only very minor ones. Using them as weapons can expend charges and running out of charges makes the items normal.

The items, of which there are thirteen, cover a range of functions. There are a number to do with serving food and drinks, an instrument that tunes itself, a piton that stays attached, a couple of items to do with directions, even a wig that perfectly styles itself.

The PDF lacks bookmarks and, even with the number of items included, it is short enough that bookmarks are not needed. Presentation is fine. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There is a single colour image and a couple of black and white ones that appear to be public domain. Presentation is okay.

This supplement is exactly what it sets out to be. A short collection of various minor magic items that are not worth much but do have some uses. Some are unlikely to be hugely useful for characters – being able to perfectly serve food is not a situation that comes up very often – although it can function as a very minor weapon. Such may turn out to be simply odd-shaped gold pieces. EN5ider #200 – Enchanted Trinkets #1 is a nice little collection of minor magic items and it can be found by clicking here.
