Dungeon Dressing: Gates & Portals 2.0 (P1)

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Dungeon Dressing: Gates & Portals 2.0 (P1)

Dungeon Dressing: Gates & Portals 2.0 (P1) by Greg Marks is a role playing game supplement published by Raging Swan Press for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

Dungeon Dressing: Gates & Portals 2.0 (P1)The supplement is available as a 12-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $3.75 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. Two pages are the front and rear covers, two are ads, one the front matter and Contents and one the Open Game License. The PDF comes in two versions, one intended for print and high-end devices, one intended for low-end and mobile.

Gates & Portals looks at what these are, has some details on construction and how they may be locked and keys, which are not necessarily physical, that could be used to open them, and those designed for one way travel.

Major Portal Features is a d100 list with 25 results that covers the larger features.

Minor Portal Features & Dressing is another d100 list, this time with 47 results, that has smaller features for the portal.

Portal Destinations is a d100 list with 25 results of possible places that a portal might lead, with descriptions that are both specific and generic enough to be dropped into different settings.

The PDF is bookmarked with the major sections and subsections linked. The Contents is to a similar level of depth and is hyperlinked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a couple of black and white stock illustrations. Presentation is decent.

Like others in the 2.0 range of Dungeon Dressing, this has only minimal differences between it and the original, or the compilation supplement, GMs Miscellany: Dungeon Dressing. There are a few tweaks to some results, slightly different text in the opening material and a lack of a Forward, but if you have the original supplement or the compilation, there is no point in getting this. This is basically a more expensive version of the original supplement; useful for those who lack it but otherwise not worth getting.
