Demons of Arion

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Demons of Arion

Demons of Arion by Graham Bottley is a role playing game supplement published by Arion Publishing for use with Advanced Fighting Fantasy 2nd Edition.

The supplement is available as a seven-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $3 but was received for free thanks to a special offer.

Demons of ArionThe opening paragraphs explain that this is intended as a one-off adventure although it could be adapted for a campaign. It is also a timed adventure, run in real time, and if the characters fail to complete the goals within one hour, they will have failed. It’s recommended as a filler or convention adventure. The Demons of Doom supplement is required, as the characters are demons using those rules, and the Travels in Arion supplement is useful.

The adventure starts with the characters being summoned to Arion by a Dwarf demonologist. His Grimoire has been stolen and he wants it recovered. It turns out the thieves who took it split it into four and the demons will therefore have to travel to four different locations.

Each of the four different locations is detailed. If the demons get back to the summoning circle on time with the parts and are in it when it fades, they will be returned to the Pit. If not, their souls will be cast adrift. Finally, there are some suggestions on using the adventure in a campaign, especially one based in Arion. There are also stats for four pre-generated by unnamed demons.

Demons of Arion in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and, though short, these would have been appreciated. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are no illustrations but each location has a black and white map, as well as the map of Arion from Travels in Arion. Presentation is okay.

As this is based on the new rules from Demons of Doom, with the characters playing demons, this is a different kind of adventure and, as it states, it is best used as a one-shot. The time limit can make it unfortunate for demon characters in a campaign, though as also mentioned, there are campaign suggestions. Demons of Arion can be found by clicking here.
