Deadly Delves: Rescue from Tyrkaven (PFRPG) by Dale McCoy Jr is a role playing game supplement published by Jon Brazer Enterprises for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result. This is an adventure for 2nd level characters.
The supplement is available as an 18-page PDF for $3.95 from DriveThruRPG although it was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. Two pages are the front and rear covers, one page the front matter and one the Open Game License. The PDF also comes in a second, printer-friendly version that lacks the page backgrounds.
The Adventure Background explains that 400 years ago the worshippers of a deity of assassination, murder and theft botched a ritual to their god and were turned into zombies and imprisoned within their shrine as a result. Recently, a group of hobgoblins moved into the cave where the shrine is, which they use as a base to raid caravans. The adventure itself is then briefly detailed.
The characters will arrive in Rivercrest, where they will be told that a caravan owner has a job for adventurers. One of his caravans was recently attacked and there was a witness. The halfling owner wants the characters to find the attackers and rescue as many of his people and as much of his cargo as they can.
The main part of the adventure is exploring the cave. Conflict with the hobgoblins can quickly become conflict with the zombies, who discover that they are no longer imprisoned and flood out to attack. A sidebar details the holy book in the shrine.
Continuing the Adventure suggests that the hobgoblin warlord who sent the raiders out may send out another party to investigate what happened and followers of the deity, Tyrkaven, will want the book the characters may have recovered. Finally, an appendix has a summoned creature and there are two player handouts.
Deadly Delves: Rescue from Tyrkaven (PFRPG) in Review
The PDF is bookmarked, but the bookmarks are mangled, making them useless. Navigation is poor. The text maintains a two-column colour format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a number of colour illustrations, which look like they may be stock, as well as the custom map. Sadly, the map doesn’t come in a player-friendly version. Presentation is decent.
This is a straightforward adventure; get hired to find missing people and cargo from a caravan, then head to the shrine to rescue them and deal with the hobgoblins. The twist is the zombies that have been imprisoned and no longer are who will join the fight. Given that it’s stated the hobgoblins are concerned by the zombie noises they can hear, it’s a bit of a surprise they haven’t decided to go somewhere less disturbing. Deadly Delves: Rescue from Tyrkaven (PFRPG) is a decent little adventure that can be easily dropped into a campaign and it can be found by clicking here.
