Creatures of Mishna by Benjamin Quinton-Bottley is a role playing game supplement published by Arion Games for use with Advanced Fighting Fantasy 2nd Edition.
The supplement is available as a PDF from DriveThruRPG for $4, as a softcover print on demand colour book for $13 or as both book and PDF for $13. The PDF is the version reviewed although it was purchased at a reduced price during a sale and has 22 pages with two being the front and rear covers, two the front matter and one the Contents. There is also a png map of the island.
The Introduction and Author’s Note explain where the island of Mishna is on Titan, with a map, and that very little was available in the books about the island, hence the supplement.
The Island of Mishna gives a description of the island and its history, with a map of the island itself.
Following this are descriptions of 18 new monsters that can be found on the island.
Encounter Tables has 2d6 tables for each type of terrain found on the island; as well as those described in this particular supplement, others come from Out of the Pit, Beyond the Pit and Return to the Pit.
Treasure Tables has a 2d6 table of treasures, related to the monsters in the supplement, some of which are harvested from them in some way.
Creatures of Mishna in Review
The PDF is bookmarked with the various sections and subsections linked. The Contents covers the major sections. Navigation is decent. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be mostly free of errors. There are a variety of black and white and colour illustrations, including colour ones for each monster. Presentation is good.
Though this supplement does have a description of the island, its history and a map, it’s primarily a bestiary, as that’s what’s covered in the most detail. The island itself, though intended for Titan, could be dropped into another setting without too much difficulty, as it’s an island. The monsters could in most cases be easily used elsewhere. Creatures of Mishna is a decent little supplement and it can be found by clicking here.
