Blood In The Woods by Robert Mason is a role playing game supplement published by Wizards of the Coast through the DMs Guild Community Content Programme. This is an adventure for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition for 1st level characters.
This is a six-page PDF that is available as a Pay What You Want supplement from DMs Guild. Around a third of a page is the Credits and front matter.
The Background explains that a member of the Fortunate Ones troupe started behaving oddly. Nearly two weeks ago, a group of goblins attempted to conjure a trickster spirit using an ancient stone altar and a stolen spellbook. This did not work to plan and, after their death, the goblin from the Fortunate Ones became affected.
The party will be travelling along the road when they are approached and asked for help. One of the two remaining members of the troupe will want them to prove themselves; the other will offer a dice reading. The camp site in the forest will be attacked and, after that, the characters will head to the altar and then to the undercroft where the affected goblin is hiding. The Fortunate Ones want their colleague freeing from her affliction, not killing.
Blood In The Woods in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and is short enough that they are not really needed. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a two-column black and white format and appeared to be free of errors. There is a single piece of black and white stock art as well as a couple of simple maps. Presentation is adequate.
This is a pretty short, simple adventure. There are a few encounters with a fair amount of potential for roleplaying, as well as some that can test a variety of different skills. Having to defeat the affected goblin without killing them will be a bit trickier; of course, they could be killed but they are a victim themselves. There are several new items, a couple of new monsters and the three NPCs in the adventure could become sidekicks. Blood In The Woods is a fairly nice little starting adventure and it can be found by clicking here.
