Bard's Tales II

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Bard’s Tales II

Bard’s Tales II by Martin Tideswell is a role playing game supplement published by Raging Swan Press for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

Bard's Tales IIThe supplement is available as a 13-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $1.50 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. Two pages are the front and rear covers, one is an ad, four the front matter, Contents and one the Open Game License. The PDF comes in two versions, one intended for print and high-end devices, one intended for low-end and mobile.

The Foreword talks about playing a bard and how this supplement has things that a player can use for their bard when doing a performance rather than just rolling dice.

Limericks has ten limericks.

Short Stories has three stories said to be the favourites of a bard.

Forlorn Hope is a longer story, again attributed to a bard.

Hook Nosed Moll is another longer story based on the legend of a witch.

Legendary Items has two short stories about items of legend.

The Sacrifice is a battle hymn of some barbarians.

Bard’s Tales II in Review

The PDF is bookmarked with the major sections linked. The Contents is to a similar level of depth and is hyperlinked. Navigation is decent. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a number of black and white stock illustrations. Presentation is decent.

None of the pieces in this supplement are particularly long, though the various short stories may be longer than other players want to listen to at the table. The utility of this supplement, like the first, may be variable; it does add some generic pieces of interest to a game, but in general such pieces are probably more of use if they are specific to a campaign setting and used to impart information. One optional use for them, for those with the ability to do such, is to record them and have them playing in the background when the characters are in, for example, a tavern. This is also a system-neutral supplement, rather than a true Pathfinder one. Bard’s Tales II can be found by clicking here.
