Bandits of the Rampant Horror by David Posener is a role playing game supplement published by Raging Swan Press for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.
The supplement is available as a 26-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $3.99 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. Two pages are the front and rear covers, one is blank, three the front matter and Contents, one the Open Game License and one is ads. The PDF comes in two versions, one intended for print and high-end devices, one intended for low-end and mobile.
Reading Stat Blocks is a standard page for the publisher explaining how to use these.
Bandits of the Rampant Horror explains that gnomes fled from the realm of fey and some of them became spriggans. One had an artefact called the scabrous grail which was a symbol of rulership until the king was overthrown. The spriggans warred against the outside world and each other, but recently one spriggan has unified the spriggans and gained a number of knights, known as the Order of the Rampant Horror, who are looking for the scabrous grail. It looks at their ecology and society, command and tactics and lairs, with sidebars looking at using the Bandits in a campaign and lore known about them.
Encountering the Rampant Horror has some encounters and a sidebar has details on the difference terrain features will make in encounters.
Knights of the Rampant Horror gives descriptions of the different knights with stats for the spriggan knights and their steeds. It also looks at their combat and tactics.
Spriggan-at-Arms has stats for these spriggans along with adventure seeds and combat and tactics.
Spriggan Trouble-Shooter has stats for these, brief descriptions of the four of them and their combat and tactics.
Persona: Baron Tallega Raundrev describes the leader with his background, personality, mannerisms, distinguishing features, adventure seeds and combat and tactics, along with stats for him and his steed.
Persona: Canerous and Vercherix covers an ettin who works with the Order and their background, personality, mannerisms, distinguishing features and combat and tactics, as well as a section on songs, rhymes and ditties, with an example, as well as their stats. A sidebar explains the ettin have a duet singing ability rather than the dual weapon ability of most ettins.
Persona: Sussamarra covers a fey-touched harpy, with her background, personality, mannerisms, distinguishing features, adventure seeds and combat and tactics, along with her stats and an encounter.
Persona: Varisthu covers a vargouille advisor, with his background, personality, mannerisms, distinguishing features, adventure seeds and combat and tactics, along with his stats. A brief description is given of the other vargouilles, the friars, as well as their stats and those of decapitated plague zombies.
Bandits of the Rampant Horror in Review
The PDF is bookmarked with everything except sidebars linked. The Contents is less thorough and is hyperlinked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a number of stock black and white illustrations. Presentation is decent.
The supplement is included in the Scions of Evil compilation, which is a more cost-effective way of buying it. This group may be called bandits, but that is somewhat misleading, as they are for all intents and purposes a pocket nation with what are effectively armed forces as well as some powerful NPCs; going up against them is a challenge, and the various adventure hooks means there are a variety of ways the group could be encountered.
