Bad Blood

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Bad Blood

Bad Blood by Stephen Trower is a generic role playing game supplement published by Twisted Quill Productions.

The supplement is available as a 15 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. One page is the front cover and one the front matter and Contents.

Bad BloodThe Introduction explains the origins of the adventure.

To the Game Masters explains that this is a system agnostic adventure and thus lacks stats. This will allow monsters to be scaled and the descriptions of NPCs covers their character and intentions.

Overview can be read by the players. It explains that Baron Maximilian Bryton has returned to his family’s ancestral home, from which they were deposed and exiled 30 years ago. The baron seeks to restore the land, which has become darker, and rule in a better way than his forbears, though the locals are suspicious.

Background Lore gives details on the baron and the Bryton family, as well as an enemy working in the area. There is also a map of the region.

Adventure Hooks has a couple of ways of getting the characters involved.

Adventure outline covers the sections.

Part One: Harried at Havenbarrow has the characters hearing about current troubles and given options over who to help, should they choose to help anyone.

Part Two: The Baron… covers Falkirk’s major locales and has a map of the town. There are a couple of quests that the characters can do for the baron.

Part Three: The plot thickens has some rumours, an optional side quest and finding and dealing with the true threat.

Conclusion has some suggestions as to what might happen in the aftermath.

Places of Interest gives a brief description of the major locales and those sites of interest any have.

NPCs gives extensive descriptions of the major NPCs.

Following this, one page has the region and Falkirk maps from earlier and another two other locations.

Bad Blood in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and has enough sections that these would have been useful. The Contents cover the various sections. Navigation is okay. The text varies between single and two column format and appeared to be mostly free of errors. There are some interior images; sadly, some are AI generated. Presentation is okay.

With there being no stats, some work will need to be done to make the adventure usable. It is, however, a good framework for one, and quite a lot of detail has gone into the various elements of it. It would even be possible to add some more subplots to the region, using some of the background details. Bad Blood is a decent adventure and it can be found by clicking here.
