An Opportunity by Joseph Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with Cepheus Engine. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.
The supplement is available as an 18 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three the front matter and three the Open Game License.
The opening paragraphs explain that the characters come across a wrecked alien vessel, a cargo ship that appears to have been recently attacked. The language is one of those of the alien species of the Frontiers of Space.
Patron explains that there isn’t one.
Complications are things that aren’t known.
The Albatross details the various locations on the wreck.
Salvage Opportunities looks at the different parts of the ship that could be salvaged for money.
Remaining Cargo covers the cargo still onboard.
Stasis Tubes has details of a single NPC in one.
The Hidden Cargo covers the smuggled goods onboard.
Encountering the Pirates covers when the pirates who originally attacked the ship will come back.
The Pirate Ship covers their ship.
The Pirates has stats for them.
Mission Completion explains the primary object is to survive and a secondary to get as much value from the ship as possible.
The final two pages of content have maps of the ship.
An Opportunity in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that these would have been useful. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a single column format and some minor errors were noticed. Bar the maps and covers, there are no illustrations. Presentation is okay.
Though the adventure may technically be set in the Frontiers of Space, it’s about exploring a wrecked ship and therefore will be easy enough to drop into other settings with some minor changes. The pirates have a common problem; lots of individual stats when two or three stat blocks would have sufficed. An Opportunity is a straightforward but potentially dangerous adventure and it can be found by clicking here.
