A Rose for Erato (A Fantasy Scenario for TSRPG) is a role playing game supplement published by Skirmisher Publishing for use with TSRPG.
The supplement is available as a 14-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $1.99 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three the front matter and one is an ad. There is also a second, 20-page PDF that is the same supplement intended for mobile use.
The introductory paragraphs explain that this is an adventure inspired by Greek mythology and the goddess of romantic poetry. The adventure is for 1-8 players, with four being the ideal, and should take 2-3 hours.
Background explains that the adventure begins in Libethra, a port town east of Mount Olympus. A map shows the position of the town and mountain. It gives some details on the minor goddesses known as the Muses, of which Erato is one, and that the most important festival to Erato is happening. A single perfect rose is places in the temple and this rose is found on the highest peak of Mount Olympus.
Running the Scenario explains how the scenario is presented and how to run Challenges.
A Rose for Erato first has some details on Libethra, and the characters are introduced to the challenge to find the perfect rose. Should they embark on the quest – if they don’t, this is a very short adventure – there are a number of challenges to encounter on the way to find the rose.
Optional Encounters has some more potential encounters.
Some Helpful Details has some details on Greek names and random objects.
This is followed by character cards for four characters, with images, background and their stats and equipment.
The final page of content is the basic rules for TSRPG itself, meaning that this adventure works standalone; the rules do not need to be purchased separately. The game is a storytelling game that is played through a series of Challenges; details of how these work, success and failure and difficulty are given.
A Rose for Erato (A Fantasy Scenario for TSRPG) in Review
The PDF is bookmarked with major and minor sections linked. Navigation is decent. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a number of colour images, which appear to be custom art, as well as some colour maps. Presentation is decent.
This is more than just an adventure, as the short basic rules for TSRPG are also included; this means the adventure is standalone and doesn’t need the main rules to play. It’s not really designed as anything other than a one-shot, however; there aren’t really enough further details to expand this. It could be possible to integrate it into an existing campaign, however, perhaps one that isn’t even Greek-themed by changing some details. A Rose for Erato (A Fantasy Scenario for TSRPG) is a short adventure and it can be found by clicking here.
