A Dozen Strange Encounters by Philip Reed is a generic role playing game supplement published by Philip Reed Games.
The supplement is available as a 14-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $1.75 but was purchased at a reduced price during a sale.
The introductory paragraphs explain that the encounters are intended to be atypical and perhaps even too fantastic for a setting.
Anatomy of an Encounter explains that each encounter has an illustration, title, opening block of text and a description.
Using the Encounters explains that they are not fleshed out and complete adventure hooks and locations. They are intended to trigger the imagination.
A Swordsman in Need is an encounter with an elven warrior who needs help confronting a great evil.
Worlds Collide has a world drawn so close that it is causing problems.
The City from Another World has a new city appear out of nowhere.
The Unexpected Gate has a newly-formed planar gate appear.
Castle Shadowstrike is a dark castle that the characters are probably visiting on purpose.
A Strange Protector has the characters encounter an ancient guardian.
Mage’s Sanctuary is the former home of a now-dead mage.
Meteor Strike is an encounter with anything from a single meteorite to multiple ones.
Accursed Summoning results in a dangerous evil god gaining access to the world.
The Arcane Firestorm is a wave of magic that sweeps across the land setting it on fire.
An Unreachable Castle is a castle that never seems to get closer.
Do Not Enter has a gateway made from intwined trees.
A Dozen Strange Encounters in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and, though short, has enough sections that they would have been useful. Navigation could be better. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a lot of half page colour illustrations. Presentation is good.
As it states in the opening paragraphs, this is a collection of ideas that will need working on to make into complete encounters, in many cases a lot of work. These are long adventure hooks, rather than anything complete; it therefore shouldn’t be purchased by anyone who wants something complete. A Dozen Strange Encounters can be found by clicking here.
