5E Mini-Dungeon #150: Thin Ice

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement 5E Mini-Dungeon #150: Thin Ice

5E Mini-Dungeon #150: Thin Ice by Colin Stricklin is a role playing game supplement published by AAW Games for use with Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result. The supplement is also available as a version for Fantasy Grounds. This is an adventure for 9th level characters.

5E Mini-Dungeon #150: Thin IceThe supplement is available as a two-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $0.99, as a print on demand card for $1.99 or as both card and PDF for $1.99. The PDF is the version reviewed, although it was obtained for free thanks to a special offer.

Half of the first page is a colour labelled map of the adventure location. The Introduction then explains that a glacier had split open and frost mages and witches have headed to it, for there is power in the glacier’s core.

Background explains what caused the glacier to break open, and why the ice has its power. Fortunately, the characters will not encounter that reason. They are, instead, hired to find out why a wizard’s ice golems have failed to return as designed.

The Approach has three encounters that could be had on the way. Finally, the locations on the map are described.

5E Mini-Dungeon #150: Thin Ice in Review

With only two pages of content, the PDF lacks bookmarks and doesn’t need them. Navigation is fine. The text maintains a two-column full colour format and appeared to be free of errors. The only illustration is the map, which sadly doesn’t come in a player-friendly version. Presentation is decent.

Space is saved in these adventures by not reprinting any stat blocks. Instead, links are given to monsters and other content on 5ESRD.com. Unfortunately, bar for one, none of these links point to anything but the site’s main page, which means the user will need to do the searching themselves. This is still possible, but it’s a definite comfort detriment. One creature listed is from Tome of Beasts and one from the Creature Codex; fortunately, that material is available on 5ESRD.com, so owning those isn’t needed. 5E Mini-Dungeon #150: Thin Ice is a decent little side adventure, let down by the lack of a player friendly map and usable links, and it can be found by clicking here.
