#30 Fleshgrafts (PFRPG)

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement #30 Fleshgrafts (PFRPG)

#30 Fleshgrafts (PFRPG) by T.H. Gulliver is a role playing game supplement published by Rite Publishing for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a 17-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $3.96 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the front cover, one the front matter, one the Open Game License and two are ads.

#30 Fleshgrafts (PFRPG)The supplement opens with some in-character text, in which the author talks about the Days of Dark Rain and explains to the person they are writing to that the monster that attacked them was human, a fleshgrafted assassin.

Fleshgrafts explains that these are similar to magic items but, with few exceptions, they must be attacked to the person for whom they are made. Fleshgrafters states that most such are wizards but all must have access to healing spells. Augmented Creatures covers why anyone would want such an item and that, though valuable, they cannot be looted. Gibberers are a familiar used to create fleshgrafts by growing them on them. There’s also a new feat, for grafting flesh, and a new spell, for culturing flesh.

The fleshgrafts are then gone into in detail. They are divided into different categories; Claws and Fangs, Limbs and Limb Extensions, Wings, Glands and Internal Organs, Eyes, Third Eyes, Skins and Miscellaneous. There are lovely things like retractable claws, tentacles, spinneret glands, gills, troll boils and more.

Following this are the stats for a Gibberer, an overview of the Wardens of the Darkened Heart, the rulers of a network of assassins and mercenaries, and two example NPCs.

#30 Fleshgrafts (PFRPG) in Review

The PDF is bookmarked, with major and some minor sections linked. Given the length, navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a few black and white and colour illustrations that look to be stock. Presentation is okay.

These items are, in an admittedly gruesome way, rather delightful. They have some definite benefits, but some of the descriptions – the troll boils are lanced to activate troll healing – do make it rather obvious that, whatever their power, using them is some way from being normal. For GMs who want NPCs to have access to items of power, but don’t want the characters to get hold of them too, fleshgrafts provide an interesting alternative; the benefits of a magic item for the NPC but no ability to, literally, strip them from the body of a dead enemy. #30 Fleshgrafts (PFRPG) is an interesting collection of rather disturbing items and it can be found by clicking here.
